I decided to try out the scout fire in a little more challenging weather last night. The temp was -8 deg.F with a wind chill of -26 deg.F I wore moccasins with wool socks, jeans, sweater with t-shirt, hat and a space-blanket. (no jacket, base layers or gloves)

Result was that the scout fire worked awesome!! I spent over a half hour around the fire. I kept quite warm. I went inside because I ran out of sticks, not because of the cold. I even had to open up the space-blanket a few times because it got too hot.

The scout fire rocks! Learn it, practice it and some day it may save your life.

I sat on a big chunk of wood. You definitely want some sort of insulator between you and the ground when temps are that low.
